Pure Reason Revolution
Title: The Dark ThirdPure reason revolution ‘s new album finds itself at a junction between old and new progressive rock. We can clearly notice the influence of the PinkFloyds in their music, (maybe a bit too obviously sometimes, but one doesn’t get tired of listenning to good things) along with some electronic music parts that sound more modern. Instrumentally speaking, we can hear a very nice mix of different sounds : guitar, bass, synthetizer (electronic sounds, some electronic drum parts), violin, and finally, what gives “ the dark third ” it’s beauty : voices. There isn’t a single singer. We can hear two types of voices, feminine/masculine, they are very soft and together they form a choir. There is not a single melodic line but a harmonic treatment of voices. That harmonic treatment of voices makes vocal parts very interesting and very nice to listen to. Each instrument, every single sound has it’s interest. You will not find intrumental virtuosity in this album, to my mind, the virtuosity here is to be found in the harmonic composition. The music of “ the dark third ” as a whole is very pleasent to listen to. I have been discovering new sounds and new harmonic details every time I have been listening to it. The whole sounds very simple and light, but is paradoxically composed of rather complex parts. I think progressive rock amateurs of the 60’ / 70’, Opeth will probably appreciate this album
Pure reason revolution nous offre ici un son entre rock progressif du passé et nouveau rock progressif. En effet, on retrouve une certaine influence des pink floyds, (peut être un peu trop prononcée de temps en temps, mais on ne se lasse pas d’écouter les bonnes choses) qui est à la fois accompagnée de petites touches de sons électroniques plus modernes. En ce qui concerne les instruments le mélange est très sympa : guitares basse synthetizer (sons électroniques et quelques parties de percussions électroniques), violon, et, ce qui donne toute sa légèreté à la musique de the dark third, les voix. Il n’y a pas ce que l’on pourrait appeler à proprement parler un ou une chanteuse. Il y a deux types de voix masculine/féminine très douces qui forment un chœur : il n’y a pas une ligne de chant mais un arrangement harmonique de voix qui rend les parties vocales très intéressante et très agréable à écouter. Chaque instrument, chaque son joue un petit rôle, vous ne trouverez pas de virtuosité au niveau instrumental (pas d’instrument soliste), c’est au niveau de la composition harmonique qu’elle se trouve à mon avis. L’ensemble est extrêmement agréable à écouter, on découvre de nouveaux sons de nouveaux détails harmoniques à chaque nouvelle écoute. L’ensemble très épuré est paradoxalement composé de parties assez complexes. Je pense que c’est un album qui plaira aux amateurs de rock progressif des années 60/70, peut être également aux amateurs d’Opeth

Dominici
Title: O3 trilogy part 2
This album is the second part of a trilogy in which we can hear again the voice from « when dream and day unite » by DT. This is a pretty nice prog metal album, in the prog metal tradition : instrumental virtuosity, complex rhythms, though it always remain « musical ». C. Dominici’s voice is really nice to listen to, he has very nicely evolved. His voice sounds far less high pitched as in « when dream and day unite », his voice is rather warm, and the melodies he sings are interesting. C. Dominici has also created an interesting concept that link together the parts of the trilogy, you can find more information about it on his website. As a whole, O3 part two is an excellent prog metal album, rather classic though interesting to listen to. Instrumental virtuosity always remain musical, rhythms used are interesting, we can notice a slight influence of DT but it is never too obvious. A good prog metal album, and a beautyful voice.
Le second volet d’un trilogie dans lequel nous pouvons apprécier à nouveau la voix du chanteur de « when dream and day unite » de Dream Theater. Un album de métal progressif qui est ma foi tout à fait sympathique, et dans lequel nous pourrons apprécier la virtuosité des musiciens et la voix de l’ancien chanteur de DT. Voix qui a d’ailleurs bien évolué, elle semble plus travaillée que sur when dream and day unite, moins aiguë, le timbre est intéressant. Les lignes de chant et les titres le sont également, le tout assaisonné d’un concept intéressant signé de la main du monsieur Dominici (vous pourrez le découvrir sur le site ). En termes généraux, c’est un excellent album de métal progressif, assez classique mais toujours très intéressant à écouter. Les soli sont bien amenés, techniques et musicaux également, les rythmes utilisés sont intéressants également, on ressent un peu une certaine influence de DT sur l’ensemble mais rien de trop lourd. En bref, un bon album de métal progressif, une belle voix.
Psyopus
Title: Our Puzzling Encounters ConsideredThe tech metal band Psyopus , is extreme right outta the gate. This cd is insane. It's hard to believe they have only been a band for a couple of years. Christopher Arp is an insane guitar player. This Cd is packed full of riffs that the average human may have had trouble comprehending let alone playing. The Track siobhanis song is a departure from the rest of the CD, it shows the melodic side. This Cd is extreme, but has a great sense of humour. Composed of bi-polar dynamics, radical arrangements, avant-garde instrumentation and a melting force of pure speed, Psyopus set out to destroy the molds of extreme metal with unprecedented attitude and conviction. Judge for yourself by listening to Our Puzzling Encounters Considered.
Le groupe de métal technique Psyopus ets vraiment hors des santiers battus. Ce cd est incroyable. Il est difficile de croire que ce groupe existe depuis seulement quelques années. Christopher Arp est un guitariste impressionnant. Ce cd est rempli de riffs qui sont pour un etre humain normalement constitué tres difficile à jouer. Le titre siobhanis est une chanson qui se démarque du reste de l'album, elle montre le coté mélodique. Ce cd est extreme, mais avec un grand sens de l'humour. composé d'une dynamique bi polaire, d'arrangements radicales, d'une instrumentation avant gardiste et avec une incroyable energie, Psyopus detruit les bases d'un metal extreme avec uneattitude jamais rencontré avant et avec conviction. Jugé par vous même en écoutant Our Puzzling Encounters Considered.
Sonic Reign
Title: Raw Dark PureThe German band leaves finally its first album. finally, here is the successor of the first Mini disc « The Decline Portrait » After having had some difficulties in find a distributor it is finally: "metal blade" which proposes to distribute their first album of this band, which already has existed for 10 years.
they play a black metal influenced of the Norwegian scene. the unit is well carried out, the compositions could recall to some "satyricon" in the content, the form and even voices on some songs. It misses with this album a key of originality, which one can find only on the last song « row dark pure ». It is disturbing to await the end of the disc to discover the true potential of the band. This album will appear useless for the ones and excellent for others, because it is necessary admeter that they are talented and that the unit lets imagine a continuation very interesting .Le groupe allemand sort finalement son premier album. Donc voilà le successeur du premier MCD « The Decline Portrait » Après quelques difficultés pour trouver un distributeur c’est finalement métal blade qui se lance pour faire partager aux black métaleux la musique de cette formation qui compte déjà une dizaine d’année d’existence.
Sonic Reign proposent un black métal nettement influencé des formation norvégienne. Dans l’ensemble bien exécutées, les compositions pourraient rappeler à certain satyricon dans le fond, la forme et même les vocaux sur certains titres. Il manquerait à cet album une touche d’originalité que l’on retrouve uniquement sur le dernier titre « row dark pure » Ce qui est dommage d’attendre la fin pour découvrir le véritable potentiel du groupe. Cet album paraîtra inutile pour certains et excellent pour d’autres car il faut admettre que le groupe fait preuve d’un certain talent et que l’ensemble laisse imaginer une suite des plus intéressantes.
The Alchemists
Title: The Alchemists 2The guitar’s Alchemists are back. This is the second edition from Liquid Note Records which already satisfied us a few years ago with a first volume. This time we can find guitarists like Chris Brook, Terry Syrek, Bumblefoot, Dave Martone, Pascal Vigné or Christophe Godin.
This time, this is a concept album. This concept is based on duets. Each guitar player invites a guest for his song. The result is quite interesting.
For example, you can hear 2 great friends playing together for the first time (Terry Syrek and Bumblefoot). France is well represented (it was already well represented in the 1st volume with Richard Daude and Stephan Forte). This time we have Pascal Vigné and Christophe Godin with a catchy country song. What am I supposed to say about William Stavato’s song featuring Brett Garsed? A true wonder.
Phi Yaan-Zek‘s song immediately reminds of a Frank Zappa’s song. For me it sounds like a tribute. We find on this album another great guitar player, Milan Polak. You don’t remember him? He was discovered by Mike Varney in a compilation series named “Guitar on the edge”. Milan shows us he’s still a great guitar player. Conclusion: This is a great compilation with amazing guitar players, but there is a negative point: you can only order this cd via internet. Not a single shop distributes this album.Ils sont de retour ces chimistes de la guitare. Voici le second volume de Liquid Note Records qui nous avait déjà rendu heureux avec le premier volume.
Cette fois on retrouve des guitaristes tel Chris Brook, Terry Syrek, Bumblefoot, Dave Martone, Pascal Vigné ou bien encore Christophe Godin. Cette fois ci l’album se base autour d’un concept. Ce sont des duos qui sont sur l’album un guitariste invite un second pour jouer avec lui. Le rendu est vraiment très intéressant.
On retrouve par exemple 2 grands amis que l’on n’avait jamais entendu jouer ensemble (Terry Syrek avec Bumblefoot). La France est vraiment bien représentée (elle l’avait déjà été sur le premier volume avec Richard Daude et Stefan Forte). Cette fois on retrouve Pascal Vigné et Christophe Godin pour un titre country qui décoiffe.
Et que dire du titre de William Stravato avec en invité Brett Garsed, une vraie merveille. Le titre de Phi Yaan-Zek m’a fait immédiatement penser à un titre qui aurait pu être composé par Franck Zappa, cela sonne vraiment bien et selon moi c’est un véritable hommage. On retrouve Milan Polak sur cet album, vous vous souvenez de lui ? Il s’était fait connaître sur les compil « Guitar on the Edge » (que de souvenirs). Et bien là encore, il montre qu’il n’a rien perdu de sa maestria. Un vrai bonheur. Conclusion : C’est une super compilation de grand guitariste. Seul petit point négatif, il n’y a pas de distribution dans les magasins, le seul moyen d’obtenir cette compilation est par le biais du net.
Neal Morse
Title: Sola ScripturaSince leaving Spock's Beard Neal Morse has released a few records. In this Genre, the Cd starts off with a very heavy prog vibe. Once the vocals enter it sounds familliar. The Cd Sola Scriptura , is Morse's telling of the life and struggles of the German theologist Martin Luther. With some Great Guest appearances such as Mike Portnoy , Randy George , and special guest Shred Virtuoso Paul Gilbert, this Cd is a great progression for Morse and if you are a fan of his music pick it up! If you are expecting ordinary Neal Morse you will be surprised! The musicianship is incredible. Songs are epic and engaging. A sonic treat for your ears..
Depuis son depart de Spock’s Beard, Neal Morse a sorti quelques albums. Dans ce genre, l’album commence avec des vibrations très heavy prog. Une fois que le chant fait son apparition, cela semble familier. Dans cet album Sola Scriptura Morse raconte la vie et la lutte du théologien allemand Martin Luther. Avec des invités prestigieux comme Mike Portnoy, Randy Goerge et un invité spécial en la personne du virtuose Paul Gilbert, cet album est une grande progression pour Morse et si vous êtes un fan de sa musique, achetez le. Si vous vous attendez à un album on ne peu plus classique de Neal Morse vous serez bien surpris. La qualité musicale est incroyable. Les morceaux sont épiques et attrayants. Un vrai bonheur sonore pour les oreilles.
Pain Of Salvation
Title: ScariskIn the kind original neo- hard core we can classify Painosalvation there. The sound is powerful and aggressive with the vocal ones which goes in the same direction. The musical unit is accentuated by rhythmic bass guitar hypnotizing in the midle of a large sound of guitars. Some passages make me think of the first albums of « Suicidal Tendances » or « body Count ». Who remembers this short and outstanding scene «fusion hard core » appeared in the Nineties who mixed music metal has the ideology of the American rap ? we can find in this disk one of the next of kin to the kind . What will surprise more the listeners will be the diversity of the compositions for example the title: "Queen Disco music" we can understands that the group does not try to classify itself. They seek to surprise and innovate . you will be able to realize of the subtlety and the originality of the group by repeated listenings of this album. Painofsalvation prefers to be expressed throughout their work and especially gradually.
Dans le genre neo- hard core original on peut y classer Painosalvation. Le son est puissant et agressif, avec des vocaux qui vont dans le même sens. L’ensemble musical est accentué par une rythmique basse hypnotisant bien présente par mis les rythmiques bien marquées des guitares. Certains passages me font penser aux premiers albums de Suicidal Tendances ou encore « Body Count ». Qui se souvient de cette brève mais marquante scène « fusion hard-core » apparu dans les années 90 qui mélangeais musique métal à l’idéologie du rap américain ? On peut trouver dans ce disque un des plus proche héritier du genre. Il faut dire que le style et les thèmes s’y prêtent. Ce qui surprendra le plus les auditeurs sera la diversité des compositions assez surprenantes et bien réalisées notamment le titre « Disco Queen » on sent que le groupe n’essaye pas de se classifier dans un style mais cherche plutôt à surprendre et innover. Ce seras au fur et à mesure de l’écoute du disque qu’on s’apercevra de la véritable originalité du groupe. Painofsalvation n’est pas du genre à balancer d’entrée tout leur savoir-faire en un seul titre et combler le reste de l’album par du remplissage bas de gamme. Ils préfèrent s’exprimer tout du long et progressivement….
Vomitory
Title: Terrorize Brutalize Sodomise« Terrorize brutalize sodomise » this title poetic is nothing other than the name carried by the sixth album of the Swedes VOMITORY band of brutal death . we have in the program: 10 title of music to explode some tympanums. In gift, for the promotion of the album the first edition will offer one bonus DVD (live) what is not negligible and a good reason to precipitate to buy it. Terribly Brutal & destructor, the band is expressed for an advisory public. They decided this to affirm its supremacy. The sound is typical Swedish … (sorry for those which does ‘t like ) but without resembling completely what exists in the kind . To compare: that look like with the first albums of Dismember in more brutal. The compositions are very varied what is rare in a brutal group of this kind. We ‘ll recognize the style of the group without difficulties those which like already will not be disappointed and those which do not know and which seek a good band of brutal death are invited listened to this album. « Terrorize brutalize sodomise » ce titre aux allures si poétique n’est rien d’autre que le nom porté par le sixième album des Suédois VOMITORY groupe de brutal Death (dans le genre, on ne peux pas se tromper). Au programme 10 titre de musique à en faire péter les tympans. En plus, pour promouvoir la sortie de l’album la première édition inclura un bonus DVD live ce qui n’est pas négligeable et une bonne raison pour se précipiter à l’acheter. Brutal à souhait, le groupe s’adresse forcement à un public averti, le combo ne fais pas dans la dentelle et a décidé d’affirmer sa suprématie. Le son reste typique des groupes suédois (dommage pour ceux qui aime pas) mais sans ressembler totalement à ce qui as été fait dans le genre. A titre comparatif, l’ensemble sonne un peux comme les premier Dismember en plus brutal encore. Les compositions sont assez variées ce qui est rare dans un groupe brutal du genre. doté d’une fluidité remarquable l’album se laisse écouté jusqu’au bout. On reconnaît dans l’ensemble le style du groupe, donc ceux qui aiment déjà ne serons pas déçu et ceux qui ne connaissent pas et qui recherchent un bon groupe brutal sont invité a écouté ca de plus près. On remarquera un excellent travail de composition qui permettra à Vomitory de sortire du lot des dernières productions qui étouffe une clientèle de plus en plus exigeante.
The new instrumental album by Sylvain Ducloux, Full Fool is a good surprise. He clearly choose a technical edge to the instrumental concept, with very good structures rhythm changes and catchy leads. What immediately makes this album standout is the rhythm changes, that actually do not really remind me of Dream Theater like most people immediately tend to think. I Still wonder what effects he used in Burp to achieve this sound !!! Except for this not really essential part, the six tracks pass by before you notice and you find yourself asking for more. Everything’ there: song structure, melodic leads, experimental rythms and solos. The only drawback is the “mechanical” sound of the drums.
Well DoneC’est une bonne surprise qui vous attends avec ce nouvel album de CLOUX, projet instrumental mené par le guitariste Sylvain Ducloux. C’est clairement un registre technique qui nous attends, avec des compos très structurées, des leads des solos comme on aime, mais ce qui saute aux yeux c’est les rythmiques tordues qui d’ailleurs ne rappellent pas vraiment Dream Theater comme on serait un peu rapidement tenter de l’affirmer. Quels effets a-t-il utilisés sur burp pour avoir ce son ^^ ? Mis a part ce passage franchement pas indispensable à la survie de ma chaine hi-hi, les six titres passent vite et au final on en redemande. Très bon jeu, tout y est : compos, rythmes, leads et solos. Seul point noir : la batterie fait un peu mécanique.
