Hardoff Hearing
Title: Landscapes in composition"Hard of hearing " out their first one and promising Ep of 5 titles. 5 titles of metal core violent, melodic and especially very technical will be enough to put everybody all right: this group has some future! The excellent and fascinating compos is linked throughout the titles with a remarkable transparency, the complexity of the rhythmic is not even an embarrassment on the contrary! It is the main asset of the group. Although compos is technical there is no annoying and boring superfluous excess which would mask a lack of originality as it is often the case in this music style. The roarings of the singer are perfectly controlled and measured, most either no tiredness of roarings without any sense. By hoping that this EP introduces a future complete album into the same lineage. The challenge is thrown for Hard of Hearing! to be followed ..
" Hard of hearing " sort leur premier et prometteur Ep de 5 titres. 5 titres de métal core violent , mélodique et surtout très technique suffiront à mettre tout le monde d’accord : Ce groupe a de l’avenir ! les compos excellentes et prenantes s’enchaînent tout au long des titres avec une fluiditée remarquable, la complexité des rythmiques n’est même pas une gêne.. bien au contraire !C’est l’atout principal du groupe. Bien que les compos soient techniques il n’y a pas de d’excès superflu agaçant et lassant qui masquerait un manque d’originalité comme c’est souvent le cas dans ce style de musique. les hurlements guturaux du chanteur sont parfaitement maitrisés et dosés, la non plus pas de lassitude d’ hurlements sans aucun sens. En espérant que ce EP introduise un futur album complet dans la même lignée. Le défi est lancé pour Hard of Hearing ! affaire à suivre …..
Eclectika
Title: The Last Blue BirdEclectika is a group of black thrash melodic from France. After a demo out in 2005 the group proposes this time a complete entitled album " the last blue bird ". It would be difficult to classify this group because it uses several methods of expression black metal voice, death metal and vocal feminine, left athmosphériques and rhythmic thrash. We could place Eclectika in a more experimental and independent frame directed to the black metal. The production really misses strength, what does not put the group in its advantage. We feel that the album is not completely succeeds and misses maturity, there are many of the good ideas but they are not exploited in hundred percent. The set not being completely catastrophic for all that, We can hope that the group knows how to advance in the future its qualities which are déja perceptible on this album.
Eclectika est un groupe de black thrash mélodique en provenance de France. Après une démo sortie en 2005 le groupe propose cette fois-ci un album complet intitulé " the last blue bird ". Il serait difficile de classifier ce groupe car il utilise plusieurs méthodes d’expression voix black metal, death metal et vocaux féminins, parties athmosphériques et rythmiques thrash… on pourrait placer Eclectika dans un cadre plus expérimental et indépendant mais plutot orienté vers le black metal. La production assez moyenne donne à l’ensemble des allures plutôt démo que véritable album et c’est dommage. La production manque vraiment de force, ce qui ne met pas le groupe à son avantage. On sent que l’album n’est pas tout à fait aboutit et manque de maturité, il y a beaucoup de bonnes idées mais elles ne sont pas exploitées à cent pour cent. le groupe est encore un peux jeune et un album complet peux paraître un peu prématuré juste après une première et unique démo. L’ensemble n’ étant pas complètement cathastrophique pour autant, on peut espérer que le groupe sache mettre à l’avenir en avant ses qualités qui sont déja perceptibles sur cet album.
The Agony Scene
Title: Get Damned" Get damned " is the third album of this group of metal hardcore rough. Influenced by several styles such as the thrash, melodic death and hardcore, we obtain on this album a rather powerful and explosive mixture. The sound deserving of a big production amplifies the quality of riffs and advances all the sonorities, we hear all the technical subtelties of the compositions, a delight for ears! This album has a lot of of assets such as the sound, the power, a quality singer who squalls in a modulated way, acrocheuses melodies, but it also has its weak points such as the lack of sticks and of variety. What is not less important in an album, on the contrary. It is difficult to be captivated from the beginning to the end by the disk and it is pity because the quality is there but there is this lack which will make the difference with an excellent group of metalcore. By moment, I wonder if this music style does not arrive at saturation, and if it would be necessary can be that the groups borrow the other references that what they already know (the heavy metal can be?) the album lasts 36 minutes for 11 titles thus necessarily, we find more or less short titlesthere but we feel them passing. In spite of these some points negative, the album in general rest above the average and will find to my opinion a part of his public who will be completely satisfied.
" Get damned " est le troisième album de ce groupe de metal hardcore brutal. Influencé par plusieurs styles tel que le thrash, death melodique et hardcore, on obtient sur cet album un mélange assez puissant et explosif. Le son digne d’une grosse production amplifie la qualité des riffs et met en avant toutes les sonorités, on entend toutes les subtilités techniques des compositions, un régal pour les oreilles ! Cet album a enormement d’atouts tel que le son, la puissance, un chanteur de qualité qui braille de manière modulée, des mélodies acrocheuses, mais il a aussi ses points faibles tel que le manque d’accroche et de diversité. Ce qui n’est pas moins important dans un album, bien au contraire. Il est difficile d’être captivé du début à la fin du disque et c’est dommage car la qualité y est mais il y a ce manque qui fera la différence avec un excellent groupe de metalcore. Par moment, je me demande si ce style de musique n’arrive pas à saturation, et qu’il faudrait peut être que les groupes empruntent d’autres références que ce qu’ils connaissent déjà (le heavy metal peut être ?) l’album dure 36 minutes pour 11 titres donc forcément on y trouve des titres plus ou moins courts mais on les sent passer. Malgré ces quelques points négatif, l’album dans son ensemble reste au dessus de la moyenne et trouvera à mon avis une partie de son public qui en sera pleinement satisfait.
"Sworn Enemy" is a group of thrashcore New Yorkers in the multiple influences, notably the most perceptible are: slayer and sepultura. "Maniacal" is the third album of the group. Any doubt, this album is cut for the live. With a fretful voice typically hardcore roared on rhythmic thrash old school. The group is very well executed with an excellent sound and perfectly adapted to the musical style of the group. 10 titles are linked with harmony and the style of the group from the beginning to the end. In that case, it is good and not very at the same time because at the end of listening we remember perfectly the style of the group but it is not the case for the titles. During the album, the vocal begin to become boring because they are too repetitive and without surprises. The tone remains the same during all the length of the disk. Contrary to melodies indefatigable and varied of rhythmic guitars ( a pure pleasure). It is pity that the compositions fade behind vocal too present. It is clear that the group has a strong musical potential and they prove it with this album indeed over both precedents. It will be probably there live with the good poster which " sworn enemy " will convince the public. And we shall expect necessarily from them for a next album irreproachable and deserving of their skills!
" Sworn Enemy " est un groupe de thrashcore Newyorkais aux influences multiples, notamment les plus perceptibles sont : slayer et sepultura. " Maniacal " est le troisième album du groupe. Nul doute, cet album est taillé pour le live. Avec une voix hargneuse typiquement hardcore hurlés sur des rythmiques thrash old school. L’ensemble est très bien exécuté avec un son excellent et parfaitement adapté au style musical du groupe. Les 10 titres s’enchaînent avec harmonie et le style du groupe se maintien du début à la fin. Dans ce cas, c’est bien et pas bien à la fois car en fin d’écoute on retient parfaitement le style du groupe mais ce n’est pas le cas pour les titres. Au fur et a mesure de l’album, les vocaux on tendance à devenir lassant car ils sont trop répétitifs et sans surprises. Le ton reste le même pendant toute la longueur du disque. Contrairement aux mélodies inlassables et variées des rythmiques guitares ( un pur plaisir ). Il est dommage que les compositions s’effacent derrière des vocaux trop présents. Il est clair que le groupe a un fort potentiel musical et ils le prouvent avec cet album bien au-dessus des deux précédents. Ce sera probablement en live avec une bonne affiche que " sworn enemy " convaincra le public. Et on attendra forcément d’eux un prochain album irréprochable et digne de leurs compétences !
Thoughts Betrayed
Title: RecollectionThoughts Betrayed (that I will shorten to TB in this review) is a Thrash / metal / progressive band from Indianapolis, USA. Core members Dave Cardwell (vocals, guitars) and Zack Uidl (guitars) formed TB in the summer of 2007 and set to work on what would become their self-released debut album “Recollection.” Their style is influenced by artists such as Nevermore, Dream Theater, Symphony X, and Outworld. You then can place their musical style, metal bearing melodic vocals and keyboards, along heavy guitars. As one of the guitarist is a guitar teacher (appearing in some guitar magazines), you can expect good technical level. I couldn’t find info on the other musicians appearing on this album, so sorry about that… TB’s album is good technically, but not very innovating. The guitar riffs are not very memorable, however, some of the solos are quite impressive. The vocals are good, and goes sometimes quite high, and for some reason remind me of Supertramp, or even Kind Diamonds at times. However, I find them quite monotonous after a while. I listen through this album at the moment to really be into this review. However, nothing really stand out to me, I do not think I will keep the mp3s I have. I find the album quite flat. The keyboards are not very adventurous, and sound sometimes kinda like Evanescence. The drums are not mindblowing either, but I guess efficient for this album; however, the sound of it sometimes borders the sound of drummachines… I think the guitar works (especially solos) are the high point of that album, with really fast sweeping and other licks. Some songs border on DragonFrorce at times (which I do not really rate)… The overall production is not the best I heard, but it definitely doesn’t help this album sticking out As always, I keep saying that this is my opinion, and that you need to listen to their stuff, don’t take what I say for granted, as I am quite hard to please. But I will stick to Symphony X and Dream Theater.

Le noyau du groupe est composé de Dave Cardwell (chant, guitare) et Zack Uidl (guitare) qui ont formé TB pendant l’été 2007 et ont commencé à travailler sur ce qui deviendra leur premier album : “Recollection.” Leur styles est influencé par des groupes tels que Nevermore, Dream Theater, Symphony X, et Outworld. Vous pouvez donc imaginer leur style musical : metal comportant des voix mélodiques, des claviers le tout sur de lourdes guitares. Comme l’un des 2 guitaristes est un professeur de guitare, donnant egalement des lecons sur certains magazines de guitare, vous pouvez vous attendre à un bon niveau guitaristique. Je ne suis pas parvenu à trouver d’infos sur les autres musiciens impliqués, donc désolé d’avance. Même leur site ne les mentionne pas. L’album de TB est bon techniquement, mais pas très innovant ; cela dit, certains solos sont très impressionnant, avec sweeping et tout le tralala à la carte. Le chant est bon, montant parfois très haut, me rappelant Supertramp (pour une raison m’étant inconnue) et King Diamonds par moment. Malheureusement, la voix devient monotone après un moment. Les claviers ne sont pas très avantureux, et sonnent un peu comme Evanescence par moments. La batterie n’est pas non plus mémorable, mais reste efficace pour le style musical. Mais elle a tendance a sonner comme une boite à rythme parfois. Je pense que la guitare est bonne sur cet album, surtout en solo, mais les riffs ne sont jamais memorables ou innovant ; l’une des chansons me rappelle DragonForce (que je n’apprécie pas du tout), et par dans cette ambiance de « melodic metal » de mauvaise qualité. Aucun titre ne ressort de cet album, auquel la production n’a rien ajouté. Comme toujours, je vous rappelle que ceci reste mon humble avis, et je vous recommande tout de même d’aller écouter ce que TB donne ; je suis assez difficile à satisfaire musicallement, donc…

Angel Of Eden
Title: The End of NeverRoger Staffelbach is back with his solo project. He dropped Artension for angel of Eden, a closer personal version of heavy metal than Artension which is more accessible. The album opens with the title track “The End of Never” which immediately gives us the style of the album: a raw heavy metal full of neoclassic stuff! With “dreamchaser” we understand the nature of this album. The choruses have an amazing Keyboard line which simulates clavecin, played by the maestro Mistheria! And we are in a true progressive neoclassical heavy metal album. The tracks run one after the other without a break and we can compare Vitalij Kuprij and Mitheria with their own Keyboards skills. Carlsen Schulz has the perfect voice for this kind of music and shows it perfectly. The album has some instrumental tracks like “Return of the Pharaoh (part 1)” which shows us all the maestria of Roger Staffelbach and Misthéria. “Battle of 1386” reminds us some Symphony X songs. Several Guests are on this track, John West is the lead singer of “Battle of 1386”, Steve Di Giorgio on bass, dave Shankle on the first solo of “Return of the Pharaoh (part 1)” and Ferdy Doernberg on several Keyboards parts. Finally we have in our hands a very good album which is not a true revolution in this style but this is a very catchy album. Lion music spoils us once more with a beautiful production.
Roger Staffelbach est de retour avec son projet solo ! Il laisse de coté Artension pour Angel of Eden, une vision bien plus personnelle du métal qui est plus abordable ! L’album s’ouvre par le titre album « The End of Never » qui donne immédiatement la nature du style : un heavy metal brut chargé de néoclassicisme ! C’est surtout avec « dreamchaser » que l’on comprend vraiment tout. Sur les refrains de ce titre on a une ligne de synthé qui simule un clavecin joué de main de maître pas Mistheria ! Et la on a vraiment un album vraiment un album de heavy metal prog néoclassique. Les titres s’enchaînent très bien et on se prend à comparer Mistheria à Vitailj Kurpij tellement les envolées au clavier sont impressionnantes !!! Carlsen Schulz possède la voix parfaite pour ce style et le démontre parfaitement. L’album comporte aussi des titres instrumentaux comme « Return of the Pharaoh (part 1) qui montre toute la maestria de Roger Staffelbach et Misthréria. L’intro de « the battle of 1386 » a quelque chose qui ferait penser à une intro de Symphony X tellement l’intensité est grande. De nombreux invités sont présents sur cet album, on peut citer par exemple John West en tant que chanteur principal sur le titre « the battle of 1386 », ou bien encore Steve Di Giorgio à la basse, Dave Shankle sur le 1er solo de « Return of the Pharaoh (part1) » et pour finir Ferdy Doernberg sur certaines parties de clavier. Au final, on se trouve devant un bon album qui ne révolutionne en rien le style mais qui a tout de même beaucoup d’énergie. Lion music nous gâte encore une fois avec une bien belle production.
From the opening notes till the ending, you’re aware that these guys can play. This musical pairing is composed of Alex Masi , Randy Coven , and John Macaluso. Sets the standard for pretty much improved music, this is a great sounding, well-played cd. When you find out that 80% was improvised , you’re floored. It’s got all the shred, time changes, insane bass playing, at times Alex Masi's tone reminds me of Eric Johnson.
I can’t stop listening to this. If you like interesting instrumental music that does not sound contrived or boring, you need to listen to this CD
Get it, you will not regret it!De la note d’ouverture jusqu’à la fin vous etes prévenus que ces mecs savent jouer. Cette association est celle d’Alex Masi, Randy Coven et John Macaluso. Le disque dont on parle est meilleur que les autres du même genre et cela va devenir le niveau de qualité de référence ou de base à dépasser. Quand on sait que 80% de l’album est improvisé, on est terrassés. Il comporte beaucoup de shred, de changement de temps, de plans de basse monstrueux et à certains moments le son d’Alex Masi me rappelle Eric Jonhson. J’écoute ce cd en boucle. Si vous êtes intéressés par la musique instrumentale qui n’est pas forcée et ennuyante, vous devez écouter ce CD Achetez le, vous ne le regretterez pas.
A very good first essay with the album ' spirit ' Eluveitie signs on one of leading label of extreme metal ' nuclear blast ' to offer us an entitled album 'Slania'. Celtic band native of Swiss with the tones who gets closer to Swedish melodic band, offers us a universe Celtic and melodic death completely folk, everything is there: Bagpipe violins the whole accompanied by compositions death metal impressive and vocal death in dominance mastered well and very variable. Good one singers in this kind of group made the difference and it is the case for Eluveitie. The band wants very well-balanced he(it) have there there no folk overdose which would have tendency to annoy or to tire during the listening of the titles. On the contrary the album is allowed listen to from the beginning to the end what for me remains in this style an exception because generally the Celtic redundancy of the instrument fill up me rather fast. As far as here the compositions are good and built well with a relatively good sound (we have not straight ahead here have an overproduction fortunately!). All the elements are favorable to Eluveitie to become probably one of reference of the Celtic death metal with the pioneers Amorphis, brainbar or still brodequin …
Apres un très bon premier essai avec l’album ' spirit ' Eluveitie signe sur un des label leader de métal extrême ' nuclear blast ' pour nous offrir un album intitulé ' Slania ' Le groupe celtique originaire de suisse et aux sonorités qui se rapproche des groupes suédois mélodique, nous offre un univers death mélodique celtique complètement folkloriques, tout y est : Bignou cornemuse violons … le tout accompagné par des compositions death métal imposantes et des vocaux death en dominance bien maîtrisés et très variables. Un bon chanteurs dans ce genre de groupe fait la différence et c’est le cas pour Eluveitie. L’ensemble se veux très équilibré il n’y as là pas de surdosage folk qui aurais pour tendance d’agacer ou de lasser au fur et a mesure des titres. Bien au contraire l’album se laisse écouter du début à la fin ce qui pour moi reste dans ce style une exception car en général la redondance des instrument celtiques me gavent assez vite. D’autant que ici les compositions sont bonnes et bien construites avec un son relativement bon ( on as pas droit ici a une surproduction heureusement !). Tous les éléments sont favorables à Eluveitie pour devenir probablement une des référence du death metal celtique auprès des pionniers D ‘Amorphis , brainbar ou encore brodequin …
Dark Fortress is one of probably better band of black metal from Germany. Besides being a good band, Dark Fortress show originality musical level, it is of ' black metal ' certainly, but the combo possesses a dark tone and special which makes the claw of the group. The song is mastered well and brings highly-rated heavy and dark one, puts on riffs mid-tempo and accompanies by keyboards discreet which stresses the atmospheres. The group gives a homogeneity and an atmosphere which is cold in the back. Throughout this album we discover special and new tones and which adapt themselves perfectly to a traditional black which would evolve towards the 'Maid' direction. With this rather remarkable album, the group shows that it have of what to compete and to become why no inescapable. Seduced in hundred percent by this album. I recommend to all the fans of black metal to lend it an attentive ear, about is the prejudices already inked in the most influenceable brains. If you don’t listen to Dark forest , it’s too bad for you !
Dark Fortress est probablement un des meilleurs groupe de black métal en provenance d’Allemagne. En plus d’être un bon groupe, Dark Fortress fais preuve d’originalité niveau musical, c’est du ' black métal ' certes, mais le groupe possède une sonorité sombre et spécial qui fais la griffe du groupe et donne le petit plus qui manque a de nombreuses Formations, qui du coup on des difficultés à sortir de l’ombre de l’underground. Le chant est bien maîtrisé et apporte un coté lourd et sombre, posé sur des riffs mid-tempo et accompagné par des claviers discret qui accentue les ambiances. L’ensemble donne une homogénéité et une ambiance qui fais froid dans le dos. Tout au long de cet album on découvre des sonorités spéciales et nouvelles et qui s’adaptent parfaitement à un black traditionnel qui évolueraient vers la ' Bonne ' direction . Avec cet album assez remarquable, le groupe montre qu’il as de quoi rivaliser et devenir pourquoi pas un incontournable. Séduit à cent pour cent par cet album. Je recommande à tous les fans de black métal d’y prêter une oreille attentive, quelque soit les préjugés déjà encrés dans les cerveaux les plus influençables. Car on le sais tous si on dit à un Black métaleux de base : ' n’écoute pas ça c’est nul ', il n’écoutera pas car il a confiance a son meilleur amis ! et au final il sera passé à coté de ' Dark Fortress ' par exemple et ce serait dommage !
